Overview

The Department of Applied Statistics and Data Science is one of the emerging disciplines under the Faculty of Science at Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST). The department is committed to providing quality education and fostering analytical, computational, and data-driven problem-solving skills to prepare highly competent graduates for the modern data-centric world. Established in 2024, the Department commenced its academic journey in 2025 and is currently offering a four-year B.Sc. (Honours) degree in Applied Statistics and Data Science.

As a newly established department, it is steadily developing its academic and research infrastructure to support teaching, learning, and innovation in statistics, data science, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and related fields. The department is dedicated to creating a stimulating academic environment that encourages critical thinking, research, and practical applications of statistical and computational methods.

The Department currently has 2 dedicated faculty members serving as Lecturers who are actively engaged in teaching and academic development. Administrative activities are supported by 2 officers and 1 office assistant, ensuring the smooth functioning of departmental operations. Despite being in its initial stage of development, the department strives to maintain high academic standards and provide students with a strong foundation in both theoretical and applied aspects of statistics and data science.

The first batch of students was enrolled in 2025, marking the beginning of the department's journey toward academic excellence. Although no batch has yet completed the undergraduate program, the department is committed to producing skilled graduates capable of addressing real-world challenges through data-driven insights and evidence-based decision-making.

With a vision to become a center of excellence in Applied Statistics and Data Science, the department aims to expand its academic and research activities, strengthen collaborations with academia and industry, and contribute to the advancement of knowledge and innovation in Bangladesh and beyond.
